Why Travelling Is Good

So, I absolutely love travelling to bits and have been fortunate enough to be able to travel, thanks to my wonderful parents. Travelling has so many benefits and here is a list of my thoughts on why travelling can be very beneficial and I’ll share some things I have learned whilst travelling:

  1. MAKE THE MOST OF THE WORLD- The world is such a big place, however life is short unfortunately. We have been blessed with a beautiful world and there are countless places to explore, so if you can why not make the most of what we have been given. I know with this one, money can be a massive problem- not being able to see everything you want to, but if you are able to then I say, definitely travel, travel, travel!
  2. TRAVEL GIVES AND OPENS PERSPECTIVE- Travelling opens up the mind and allows you to experience a range of cultures and places that are completely different to each other. This broadens the mind, as what you perceive the world to be about and can help shape your mindset. It makes you a more understanding and empathetic person.
  3. TRAVEL EDUCATES- Similar to the above point- travel allows you to learn about different cultures, ways of living and etiquettes, learn different languages, learn about sights, learn about history, learn new skills, learn about foods, you can learn about things that you did not even know existed, the list is endless…
  4. TRAVEL TEACHES GRATITUDE- Experiencing new cultures and places makes you so thankful for what you already have in life comparison to what others may not have. It makes you appreciate everything more, allows you to re-evaluate any problems you have in your life, compared to what others may be experiencing. Being the furthest away from home can make you appreciate it and everything and everyone in it more than ever- interesting thought… Now saying this, I know everyone has a personal battle they’re facing and you have the right to state what you call a problem, however, travelling allows you to rethink that problem and work out how much of a problem it is to you, when thinking about other places.
  5. TRAVEL GIVE YOU ADVENTURE- Travel allows you to experience unique adventures and gives you a sense of fulfilment and accomplishment you may not experience in the same form in your hometown. Whether that’s climbing mountains, water sports, adventure sports, sightseeing or even something as simple as swimming in the sea or walking through nature- whatever your idea of an adventure is, travel can provide you with it!
  6. TRAVEL BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER- Travel allows you to make connections with people all over the world- that can be through travelling for work purposes, travelling with family, friends, a partner or even through education or a society you’re part of- it allows you to share experiences somewhere different with the people closest to you, or if its travelling alone- travel allows you to make friends all over the world, it allows you to from close connections with people far away from you and realise that whilst there are people so different from you on the other side of the world, there are also potentially people far more similar to you than people in your own home town- interesting isn’t it? Travelling helps to connect the world more.
  7. TRAVEL HELPS YOU LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF- Travel can help to make you realise who you are as a person- your qualities, your mindset, your values and morals, your thoughts and ideas, what your hobbies, what your skills are, your likes, your dislikes, what you appreciate the most, again the list is endless…
  8. TRAVEL GIVES YOU FREEDOM- Similar to adventure, travel allows you to experience new things. A lot of the time people do things whilst travelling that they would not dare do at home or can not do at home- travel gives you the freedom to step out of this comfort zone.
  9. TRAVEL CHALLENGES- Travel definitely can be a challenge. Say you’re going for a long walk at home and you’re feeling a bit tired, you could easily give up and take the bus right? Well with travelling, say you’re going for a big hike, you don’t want to give up because you want to make the most of your time and accomplish something, plus there’s probably no buses in the mountains… But yes, travelling challenges you and makes you realise all the things you can actually accomplish, which you may have thought you could not.
  10. TRAVEL GIVES YOU A BREAK- A lot of people love travelling as it is a refreshing break from their daily life- it’s a break from that stressful job, for parents it can be a break away from kids, or any stress or worry happening in your life- whilst travelling you can hopefully try and completely relax and be in the moment for however long you’re away for- it allows you to reflect and then hopefully help you to deal with whatever it is with a more refreshed mind, as soon as that plane lands!
  11. TRAVEL CREATES MEMORIES AND STORIES- Travels creates so many memories and gives you stories to share with people and what the experience has brought and taught you.
  12. TRAVEL MAKES YOU A BETTER LISTENER- Travelling can make you a better listener in many ways- whether it’s listening to tour guides giving you information, hearing a local’s story about their life, listening to everyone you come into contact with as you’re most likely out and about a lot, this list is also endless…
  13. TRAVEL HAS HEALTH BENEFITS- Yes, I know with travel also comes a lot of potential unhealthy eating- as travel can mean eating out more, trying new foods and eating more desserts and junk food- because why not- you’re on holiday right? It’s fine, I’m sure most of us have done this, you’re not alone. But when travelling, you’re also more active when walking about exploring all the sights and potentially any sports or adventures you decide to do- burning all that unhealthy eating off!
  14. TRAVELLING IMPROVES CREATIVITY- Experiencing a range of places can open your imagination, allow you to create new ideas and also make you feel more inspired, plus inspire others!
  15. TRAVEL CAN IMPROVE HAPPINESS- Psychological research has found that experiences can make people happier than materialistic things in the long term.
  16. FOOOOD- Okay I have to make food a separate point on it’s own as I love food- but it’s an obvious one- travel allows you to experience foods of different cultures and food only found in certain countries- travel makes your taste buds bounce!
  17. TRAVEL ALLOWS YOU TO GIVE- Travelling can allow you to do charity work abroad and also give to those less fortunate than you even when just on holiday- travel can help create a bigger world impact.
  18. Finally, WHY NOT? I mean, why not travel? If it’s something that you’re passionate about or something that inspires you or something you simply want to experience, then do it. If you’re afraid then take that leap- trust me on this, you won’t regret it!

I’m sure there’s so many things I’ve missed out about the benefits of travelling, but here are some of my thoughts on why I think travelling is good for you and what I’ve learned through my own travel experiences and what I’ve learned from reading and listening to others. Obviously these are just my thoughts, and not everyone will agree with me, but as my blog is meant to be motivational I’m focusing on all the positives of travelling. Feel free to comment below your travelling thoughts, lessons and experiences below, I’d love to hear them and hopefully learn something!

Hope you enjoyed reading this blog and hope I’ve inspired some of you to travel- if you’re planning to travel, I hope you have a lovely experience!

Have a lovely week everyone and happy travels,

Lots of love,

Aarti Shah x
